This week's Wildcat Wednesday is two-fold...First, a HUGE thank you to Frau Kyer for organizing a wonderful exchange program with the German students and staff from Obersulm, Germany (a 20-year connection!). And another THANK YOU to the students and families who hosted these kiddos. What an opportunity our students and staff had with them here. We look forward to sending our YHS students in a couple of years and to keep the York --> Obersulm connection going. Thank you 🐾

Students in Ms. Jovanovich's Everyday Algebra class use Play-Doh to help understand that when solving literal equations the answer may look different but is still all the same pieces, it just looks different. Just like the Play-Doh looks different when you change it but it is still the same glob of Play-Doh. What a fun way to learn math 🐾

Students in Mr. Wyatt's Introduction to Computer Science class learned about sorting techniques. They explored methods such as Selection Sort, Quick Sort, Insertion Sort, and Bubble Sort (to name a few!). This is a hands-on activity to strengthen knowledge from their Problem Solving Unit, a fundamental skill in computer science. Love seeing these Wildcats in action 🐾

This week's Wildcat Wednesday focuses on our newest staff member, Michael Healey. Mr. Healey joins our YHS team from a school district in Massachusetts where he has been working in special needs classrooms for the last ten years. In his spare time, he likes to hike the White Mountains and ride his bicycle. We are so fortunate to have him and please be sure to welcome him to the high school 🐾

The complex would replace York High School’s current track and multi-use fields. Choose from three Informational meetings that will be held at the York Public Library (prior to scheduled York School Committee Meetings) on November 1, 15, and 29 from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the York Public Library. We hope you'll join us!

Congratulations, Molly Kenealy ('24), for being selected as the York High School Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) Good Citizens Award recipient. YHS students and faculty selected this year's DAR award recipient based on the following criteria: dependability (which includes truthfulness, loyalty, and punctuality); service (which includes cooperation, courtesy, and consideration of others); leadership (which includes personality, self-control, and ability to assume responsibility); patriotism (which includes unselfish interest in family, school, community and nation) to an outstanding degree. Molly will submit an essay to be entered into the State of Maine DAR Good Citizens program and could potentially earn a college scholarship. Congratulations, Molly! We are so very proud of you 🐾

This week's Wildcat Wednesday features Paul O'Brien. Mr. O'Brien is our Student Learning Center Coordinator and you may even recognize him from his YouTube show "Football Talk"!! Mr. O'Brien has been running the SLC for four years and is a great support for all of our students. Mr. O'Brien grew up in Revere, MA, went to Bentley University, and earned a finance degree. Before joining our team at YHS he did a "bunch of things" -- he was a software sales rep, did some real estate, and even did airline operations (what specifically did he do? you should ask him!). He also likes to ski at Sunday River, walk his cocker spaniel, Kona, cook big meals for his family, and of course, watch the Patriots 🏈 ... A fun fact about Mr. O'Brien... he became a certified scuba diver in college. You should definitely ask him about that experience! We are so fortunate to have Mr. O'Brien here at YHS and if you're around the SLC you should stop in and say hi!

This week's Wildcat Wednesday features a very familiar face -- Paul Santerre, our York Community Auditorium Manager! Did you know that he has been in this position since the YCA opened in 2018?! Before joining our team he taught music education for over 35 years, worked in the hotel business for a few years, and coached basketball for 17 years in NH. Some fun facts about Mr. Santerre are that he loves to spend time with his wife, whether traveling, helping in their small local business, trying new restaurants, attending live musical and theatrical performances, or walking their dog, Crosby. He also enjoys working in his flower and vegetable gardens and singing in local area choirs. We are so fortunate that he made his way to the YCA and is part of our York High School team... if you see him around today be sure to 👋 and say hi 🐾

This week's Wildcat Wednesday is dedicated to all of the 94 students who have elected to take the PSAT/NMSQT assessment today. There are many benefits to taking the test but some of the highlights are: students may qualify for a National Merit Scholarship (over $180 million dollars available!), it is great practice for the SAT, and can give students college and career planning tools (and so much more). We also want to thank the staff members who have worked behind the scenes to prepare for this test: Neil, Hutch, Seth, Paul Santerre, Mr. Beatty, Ms. Humphrey, Ms. Horrisberger, Mr. Farley, Ms. Damiano, Patio, and Eric Lawson. We would not be prepared to offer this test today if it weren't for all of you. THANK YOU and GOOD LUCK 🐾
