Dear York High School Community,
The past 36 hours have been unthinkable, and my heart continues to be with those directly impacted by the tragedy that has unfolded in Lewiston. I also recognize that the impacts on all Mainers are far-reaching, and we are just beginning to know the connections and effects on our school community members. If you or your student need support as we navigate through this please do not hesitate to reach out to us here at the high school.
This morning we met with the superintendent regarding after-school activities. Given York’s proximity to Lewiston and guidance from York Police Chief, Owen Davis, we are going to return to normalcy. After-school practices will be able to go on as planned and tonight’s production of “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” will be able to occur. We will continue to have an increased police presence around campus as an added precaution, but we are confident in the decision to allow our students to participate in activities they have been preparing for.
Please know that we do not make these decisions lightly and that we have used the information shared with us by the York Police Department to do what we feel is best for our students. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to reach out to Mike, Liza, or me.
Thanks,
Amanda
