Students archaeological dig

9th-grade students in Mr. Thompson's Global Studies Honors class have been working on a final summative/culminating project-based learning experience called "Unlocking the Secrets of Mohenjo Daro - Simulated Archaeological Dig". Working in teams of three, students assumed the roles of chief archeologist, anthropologist, and cartographer. They then employed the elements of culture, traits of civilization, and the basic principles of archaeology in order to assign meaning to each of the 11 sub-site artifacts within the 4500-year-old city on the Indus River in Pakistan. Their final task was to recreate the culture of the civilization, including governance, religion, and social stratification, as well as explanations for the decline and disappearance of the city.
