On Thursday, May 25, York High School’s School Resource Officer Shaun Darrow visited Ms. Michaud’s Business Law class. This half-year elective course covers not only the law associated with the operation of a business but also personal law. Some students report taking this course because they are interested in business, others state they are interested in law or politics, and still, others are considering a career in law enforcement or have an interest in social justice topics. Officer Darrow shared his journey to becoming a police officer while answering many questions from students within the class.
Officer Darrow discussed reasons a citizen may be pulled over in their vehicle and demonstrated with freshman student Maddie Fitzgerald what a Field Sobriety Test entails. Topics such as probable cause, reasonable articulable suspicion (ras), and the exclusionary rule (“fruit of the poisonous tree”) were also covered.
